Khalil (Kal) Sullins is an accomplished artist, award-winning filmmaker, and world-renowned photographer. Born in San Diego, California, in 1983 to Steve and Soussan Sullins, his artistic trajectory began early. His childhood works garnered numerous awards and were featured in local exhibitions. As a youth, he furthered his foundation with coursework in drawing, painting, and photography at Parsons in both Paris and New York. He attended film school, graduating with honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 2006.
Sullins’ fine art has been showcased in Los Angeles galleries, highlighted by a 2010 solo exhibition at Seyhoun Gallery. His cinematic endeavors are equally noteworthy. His debut feature film, Listening, screened at over thirty international film festivals and earned accolades for writing and direction. Released theatrically in 2015, The Hollywood Reporter lauded the film as an “audacious sci-fi thriller that’s as engrossing as it is thought-provoking… features style to spare, [and] instantly marks its creator as a talent to watch.”
In addition to producing numerous independent films, Sullins’ screenplay, The Disease, is currently being adapted into a graphic novel. In 2019, following a period of personal health challenges, he relocated to Oahu, Hawaii, where he established a commercial photography firm. His vibrant underwater model photography has since achieved global recognition, including a featured profile in the Italian publication Fotografia. The year 2026 marks a milestone in his career with the inauguration of his public studio and gallery space, Kal’s Art Studio, on Oahu’s North Shore, debuting with the premier exhibition, Inmost Fire.
